William Williams was the second son of Frederick William Williams and Annah Bryant Williams. He was born in Edgefield District of South Carolina on 15 Apr 1774. On 21 Oct 1802 he married Martha Ann "Polly" Wells. Polly was the daughter of Lewis Wells and Elizabeth Bates. The Wells were from Greenville District, SC. The families went hunting in Kentucky and Illinois. Around 1808, William and his brother, Samuel moved to Perry County, IL. The Indians proved to be too troublesome and they moved to Christian County, KY. In the Fall of 1827, William's boys moved to Perry County to farm the land. In the early 1830's, Martha and daughters Ann & Mary moved to Perry County. At the time their daughter Elizabeth had married John Brasher and was living in the Christian County area. His son, Simpson, died in 1837 and his wife, Margery, son Chesley, and daughter Elizabeth moved from Perry County to live with William. They were living there at the time of his death in 1860.
