John was born in Germany to parents unknown. He came to the US in 1849 or 1851. There are documents showing both dates. We don't know when or where he married Christina Williams (probably Wilhelm). They lived in Albany when they first married. In the early 1860's they moved to Detroit for a few years. From Detroit they moved to Tiffin, Ohio. By 1870 they were back in Albany living at 47 2nd Ave. He was living there at the time of his death on 16 Jan 1902. He is buried in Our Lady Help of Christians Cemetery in Glenmont NY. He worked as a pattern maker.
Note: Johann went by John Lewis. Many German immigrants changed their names to help them "fit" into the USA.
