Anna was born in Schonmattenwag, Germany to Georg Adam Zeiner and Eva Elizabeth Keil. She was fourth of the eight children of Georg and Eva. Barbara married Johann Gerhard Schmitt on 4 Mar 1821 in Ober-Absteinach, Germany. Barbara and Johann had six children with one (Johann) dying in infancy. Johann died on 1 Feb 1848. On 5 Dec 1857, Anna and sons, Adam & John, and daughter, Elizabeth arrived in New York City aboard the ship Margareth-Evans. Alois Schmitt was also a passenger on the ship. The family made their way to Quincy as eldest son, Gerhard and daughter, Agnes were already residing in Quincy. On 12 Aug 1862, Anna died in Quincy. She is buried in St. Boniface Cemetery in Quincy.
