Thomas A Williams was born on 27 August 1880 on the Williams farm. The farm is located one mile west of Enloe Cemetery on Hwy C outside of Russellville, MO (2 miles from there) . The farm was originally his grandfather’s. He lived here until around 1895 when the family moved to Jefferson City. His father had developed tuberculosis and went to Jeff City for medical help. His father died in 1900 and his sister, Olive, died in 1902 from TB. Shortly after Olive’s death the family moved to Hannibal. At this time I don’t know why they moved. Jeff City did have a shoe company around 1900 but I don’t know if he was working there.

In the 1903 Hannibal City Directory he is living at 1419 Broadway. He is working at Star Shoe (7th to 8th on Collier).

Not in the 1905 Hannibal City Directory

In the 1907 Hannibal City Directory he is living at 1303 ½ Broadway and is work for Bluff City Shoe. Bluff City Shoe is on Maple Ave at the corner of Collier (down the street from Star).

In the 1910 Census he is living in Mexico, MO and married to Elsie. The Corders are living with them. He is working at the Shoe factory (Morris Bros). The Morris Brothers opened a shoe factory in Mexico around this time.

In the 1913 Mexico City Directory he is living at 1002 W Harwood. He is working for the Morris Brothers Shoe Factory.

Shortly after his son was born the family moved to Quincy. Quincy had a new factory as the shoe factory had expanded.

In the 1920 Census he is living at 613 Chestnut in Quincy. He is a foreman at the shoe factory (Morris Bros). Nellie, Frances, Paul, and Grandma Corder also live with them. Nellie’s husband had died in 1918 (influenza). He was an engineer on a steam locomotive.

In the 1930 Census he is still a foreman at the Shoe Factory and living at 613 Chestnut. Nellie, Frances, and Grandma Corder are still living with them.

In the 1940 Census they had moved to 810 ½ Oak and he was still a foreman at the Shoe Factory. Grandma Corder was still living with them. Nellie had died in 1938. Frances had married Kermit Mesler in 1939. Census shows that Thomas completed 2 years of High School. Grandma completed one year of High School and Grandma Corder completer the 6th grade.

The last residence was 1112 N. 8th.

Thomas died in 1958. He is buried in Calvary Cemetery next to his wife.
