Alois was born to Peter Schmitt and Eva Kohl in Unter-Abtsteinach, Germany on 16 Nov 1834. Alois and the Kecks came to the US on the ship, Margareth-Evans and landed in New York City on 5 Dec 1857. Alois trained as a shoemaker in Germany and was one all his life. Alois died at his son's, Leonard, house on 12 Jul 1915 in Quincy. He is buried in St. Boniface Cemetery in Quincy.
